The Alphonse Mambo

Caught the stage production of Chicago over the weekend. Some good stuff and thoroughly enjoyable. Had some also enjoyable drinks afterwards, just to complement the weekend, which has also been quite the enjoyable weekend. Apart from having to work. That was much less enjoyable.

But what else is enjoyable? Music video to Jon Brion’s Knock Yourself Out from I Heart Huckabees. Love your Marky Mark.

Not to forget to remind, vote for Roz’s yellow pages entry if you haven’t yet and clear your schedule this Friday for the Down By The Riverside premiere screening.

All Hail West Texas

So had one of the best times in a while now back up in Auckland.

Finished up filming work at about four and spent an hour trying to navigate traffic to drop off gear and find the hotel I’d be staying at. Getting into friend’s room, I find it’s on the 24th floor with a great view, but again. 24 fucking floors up. Heights are dealable with most of the time, but I was tired and strung out and kinda lost the ability to form reasonable thinking for five seconds.

But all was well once back on the ground and watched the greatness that is Easter Promises. One of my top contenders for best film of the year and with one of the most intense scenes ever. Ever ever. Whats tough is I will go on and on about how great and amazing the film is to people and when they go “whats it about?” I really can’t say anything more to that, this is one of those films I can’t say anything about and it should just be watched.

But anyway, after the movie, there was much awesome meeting up of many people from the South Seas days and many a more drinking to be had after that. Really awesome to see everyone again, not so awesome the hangover in the morning. But I’m hoping to do it again real soon. Hopefully with more people, with midgets and pandas wearing burglar masks. That’d be sweet.

Hasty Morning Post

Sitting and waiting to go with some others to go to a gig in Auckland today. I was like the last to wake up and first to wait. Which means my lack of needing stuff and hobo trainning has paid off. Or I’m just easy. Whatever.

But tonight should see some drinking going on and meeting up of people I’ve not seen in a while. And more drinking. Hopefully.

And tomorrow night will be Chicago in Te Aroha. With more drinking as well.

Awesome.

Closing Tabs and Linking Stuff

Came to work to find my limited edition copy of Tekkonkinkreet finally arrived in the mail for me. Very happy.

Anyway, onto the internet, which is far more interesting at this point…

Article on a Japanese sect was raided by 400 police officers on suspicion of murder can be read here.

The awesomeness of nano technology has unveiled the world’s smalled radio, details here.

Stuff about Archinect but really cool writings on Russian futuristic architechture can be read here.

And an even cooler thing, though for how long it’ll be available, who knows? Is you can download a complete copy of Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. Was made into the excellent film Stalker and probably my next thing to read. Even if its an eBook. You can try grabbing it here

Night of the Mules

For the last few nights I’ve been having a string of the most surreal dreams, jumping all over the place in terms of… well, everything. Today and the last few days for that matter, I’ve been staying in bed, sleeping in and constantly either trying to continue dreaming or seeing what the next dream is like. Of course, I don’t remember any of these dreams. I remember having them, remember waking up remembering them, but now properly awake, even the most basic details are lost to me. Which is all leading me to believe I should keep myself a dream journal from now on. We shall see.

Anyway, got sent this cool video on how stonehenge was probably built and this one guy does it all by himself.

Shameless Plugging Post

I barely know what this is about exactly. Some university thing where they’re trying to find out “what makes a student happy”. And while my simple answer of three kegs of beer, carried on a giant pig’s back, ridden by a leprechaun, is aparently not a right answer, friend Maria is one of the contestants to see if she knows. Check out more details and all sorts of stuff to do with watching and voting on stuff here.

Meanwhile, into its second week is the Te Aroha production of Chicago. I never saw the movie or anything else to do with Richard Gere, but hey, I’ll going to this (I hear there’s booze). Last shows are on for the 25th-27th this week and tickets are $20 per person, with other package options available. More details here.

And Down By the Riverside gets its New Zealand premiere next week. Reposting…

Downending Films and Film Waikato are proud to announce the world premiere of the feature film Down by the Riverside on November 2nd at Hamilton’s Rialto Theatre, New Zealand.

The film, which was recently nominated in New York’s prestigious B-Movie awards for best foreign film, is described as a murder mystery, art house noir period piece, and is set in the Waikato town of Te Aroha. The film follows two historians as they investigate an unsolved murder, and they soon become part of the horrific story.

Oh and because it’s awesome. A Steampunk’s Guide to the Apocalypse. I’ve downloaded but not read any of it yet. But the title is just too awesome to ignore. Downloadable options here.

The Internet if Full of Stuff

Balls tightening anticipation for Takeshi Miikie’s new film Sukiyaki Western. Like a bizarro version of Kill Bill, this is gonna be awesome.

A hilariously evil guide to Raising Your Mentally Retarded Child. If you find this funny like I did, you’re probably going to hell. That, or be forced to listen to the Spice Girl’s new song. Twice.

Forgetting if I’ve blogged this, but this video always makes me smile somewhat.

And finally, the most retardedly awesome idea for a film ever: “In 1945 the Nazis went to the moon. In 2018, they are coming back”. Hilarious.

Dead Alive

Tired. Been working. An up and down week. But I’m tough. This guy who woke up from his own autopsy is pretty tough. But I can still wrestle down three polar bears with one arm behind my back… and arm that’s writing haikus. Cause I’m sensitive too.

Anyway, pretty insane article here.

A Vote for Awesome is a Vote for Awesome

Friend Roz is in on the Yellow Pages Art Awards.

Vote for her entry “Friendly Foliage” and you just might be as awesome as her.

Vote away here.

Regicide is the Word of the Day

Another day off and all is fairly boring in the world. Been playing games and listening to music, which is always a good thing I say, but again, leaves very little to be blogged about.

Been playing around with a new website design, but its still all drawing board stuff as I still haven’t found one I’m fully happy with yet. But that’s also just idle stuff to pass along the time as to do another overhaul of this site would be a bit of a bittersweet pain, but a thought I still can’t shake off none-the-less.

Brother sent me this article on what could be considered the 6 Most Terrifying Foods in the World and I’d be inclined to agree. If I had to have a choice, I’d be at least willing to eat the ant eggs, but totally freak out at the thought of drinking baby mice wine or chewing on duck fetus. If you dare, read on here.
