Sum of All Parts
He's Kerry Post
This was our second year in entering the 48 Hours comptetion in the Hamilton region. How the competition works is teams from all across the country are given exactly 48 Hours and not a second more to make a short film no longer than seven minutes that incorporates three elements of a prop (a brush), the line of dialogue "wait a minute" and a character named Kerry Post who is a perfectionist.
We drew Horror as our random genre and I personally hate most horror films. Well the bulk of the ones that are made these days anyway. Well more specifically, I'm refering to the 'torture porn' films like Hostel and the god awful Saw movies. It's a little ironic then that in the end we ended up with something that can be similarly classed in that genre and I had a little gleeful fun in making it. Our original intentions were to make a serious short film, one that is to the point of horror and no more. Of course, we, or at least I couldn't help but delve into a little comedy and well... you'll see.
My personal favourites of this short is the music. When we got horror, it was serendipitous that we had a synth machine to make some John Carpenter horror style music (cause I'm a huge Carpenter fan) and a set up where the music was being cut on a computer right next to my computer as I was editing it together, which I've gotta say is one of the best approaches ever and I should really remember to do that for future 48 films (lack of foresight didn't have that happen in 2009).
For our efforts we were awarded best film in the Hamilton region and that was pretty neat-o.
48 Hours Hamilton Finals Intro Video
In 2008, all Hamilton finalists were given the option to make a short introduction video to be played at the start of their films. Feeling too creative to go the usual route of just saying thanks to the camera, I put together these two videos in association with fellow finalists Y's Guys Films cause we knew they would be played after us and we could help but have fun at each others expense. They were quite popular with the crowd and while I'm not the proudest of the first video (being shot just by myself and not thinking anything professional) I posted them online and anyway and here they are...
