Betty Banned Sweets

Sometimes the best party is the one you don't want

Not long after footage from Pictures of You started making the rounds and gaining word of mouth, I was contacted by a Wintec masters student who was interested in me DOPing her new short film. Enjoying the new process of being just a cinematographer and not stressing over anything else, I happily accepted the gig and also looked at it as a great opportunity to see the process under a different director. That and I'm just a whore for making films.

This was an interesting project, not in terms of the content or the process or nothing like that, but just for me, it was the fact that I was involved in a Wintec production. It's a different step having studied at uni instead and always wondering what it was like to be at wintec instead.

But this was a fun film to make, at times stressful as I was working a graveyard shift job at the same time as filming this on weekends, which at times had me at times feeling pretty tired and guilty about it. Also, at one point had to take off for an hour to move a piano I'd bought on a whim (sorry again about that Michelle).

Since then, this film has made quite the rounds from what I've heard. Toured several international film festivals from Melbourne to Edinbrugh to Rotterdam and of course, New Zealand. I even heard it was on the Rialto channel at one point, but I never saw it or nothing. Still, pretty damn cool and the film is pretty sweet too.

I'm not sure what the status on availabilty is for this film, but I do know that if your interested in picking up a copy, it's at least available on the DVD shorts collection "It Came From the Swamp: Short Films from The Waikato". Past that, I'm not sure, but will post anything here if I find out.

An extract...

Not being my film I can't really upload a copy of this, but I did find a one minute extract which you can sample and enjoy...
